LGBTQ Students

The Toppel Career Center is dedicated to advocacy and development of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and ally (LGBTQA) community at the University of Miami and beyond.  As this is a priority for our department, we are proud to note that we are certified as gold by Out For Work  Career Center Certification program. This accolade was earned after years building a partnership with Out For Work to promote the career education of LGBTQ students and alumni.

For the Toppel Career Center, the gold certificate makes the Toppel Career Center distinguishable because of the quality resources provided to students and alumni through their personal, professional, and career development. In addition to the resources provided on our website and by Out For Work, we encourage students to also schedule an appointment with a career professional on to help formulate their career education plan.

UShadow and LGBTQ Students

This year, the UShadow Program is piloting an opportunity for LGBTQ students to choose to work with LGBTQ UShadow hosts. Students who are accepted into the UShadow Program and indicate this preference on their application may be matched with an LGBTQ professional in the Miami area. The goal of this match is to provide students with the opportunity to discuss the transition from academia to the workplace, to learn about inclusive work environments and careers, and to discuss relevant professional development topics.

To submit your UShadow Application, log in to and click the "Surveys" tab.
