Each semester, the Toppel Career Center offers a variety of programs designed to increase awareness of career paths and professional opportunities. They are conducted by outside speakers and panelists who are recognized specialists in their field.

  • If you are considering law school and a career as an attorney, don't miss this program! Meet UM alumni who have successfully utilized their law degrees in a variety of ways.   • It can be tough to find a job as a new nurse, and this program will prepare nursing students for the job market.  Nurse recruiters and hiring managers will discuss what they look for in a resume, at a career fair, and during an interview, and recent graduates will share how they found employment.  Gain practical advice on how to succeed at the Nursing & Healthcare Networking Night and when you apply for jobs.

Get Psyched! Meet Psychology Graduate Students & Employers

  • A degree in psychology can lead to so many careers that in can be overwhelming to narrow down your options.  Meet graduate students and professionals who studied psychology or hire psychology majors to learn what opportunities are available to you.    Graduate students and professionals will briefly introduce themselves at the beginning of the program and then all attendees will have an opportunity to mingle over appetizers.  Students are encouraged to RSVP on HireACane (under Events, Workshops).

Scholarships and Fellowships to Launch Your Career: A National and International Perspective

  • Late spring and summer are a great time to apply to graduate or professional school, and you will need a strong personal statement to complete your application. Attend this program to learn strategies to write a competitive personal statement for graduate or professional school from professionals at the Kaplan test preparation company. Pizza will be served.

Diversity and Your Career

  • Come to Toppel for a panel discussion on diversity in leadership in various careers. In a globalized community, understanding diversity issues is vital to your career development. The panel will consist of leaders in their fields who will discuss their experiences and working in a diverse culture and environment.
