Alternative Options after Graduation

Have you ever thought about volunteering for a senator or traveling across Europe?
Ever wanted to help build houses for the poor or conduct research in a rain forest?
Alternative Options after Graduation is a program designed by the Toppel Career Center to assist students who struggle with finding a path to take after graduation.

If starting a career or pursuing a graduate degree is not the right option immediately following graduation, students may want to consider other exciting choices. The Alternative Options after Graduation program sheds light on the great deal of opportunity that exists for graduates who would like to travel, volunteer, or learn more through the world of work. Many companies and organizations offer internship and fellowship opportunities for recent college graduates.

The Toppel Career Center defines an alternative option after graduation as a one- or two-year position or other experience that provides:
  • A time to travel, to make a contribution through a service experience, or to follow a dream
  • An opportunity to figure out what you really want to do and gain some perspective on life goals
  • A break before entering graduate school or starting a career
  • A way to enhance applications for employment or graduate school
