During the fall and spring over 400 companies participate in the Toppel Career Center’s
On Campus Recruiting Program. Employers come to campus to interview UM students
and graduates for Full-Time and Internship opportunities. To apply for on-campus
interviews you must be registered on CaneZone and have an approved resume on the
system.
- To register on CaneZone. Click here If you already have an account on CaneZone, proceed
to the next step.
- To login to CaneZone Click here and upload your resume! Make sure
you have accurately filled out your academic profile; this is the data that CaneZone
uses to match you up with opportunities you are eligible for.
- Once your resume is uploaded the first time, your resume is critiqued by a Toppel
Career Center staff member and emailed back to you with corrections within 3-5 business
days. After the initial resume is approved you can upload up to 10 total documents.
- Attend an Interviewing Skills Program
click here for dates and times. Attend this workshop and learn the steps to
follow before, during and after the interview to increase your chances of landing
the job you want.
The process is that simple and now you are ready to sign up for any on campus interviews
you qualify for! Simply log onto CaneZone for a list of all the companies conducting
on campus interviews this semester.
Please review the cancellation policy
before signing up for any interviews.
It is your responsibility to keep track
of each step in this process. The Toppel Career Center is not responsible for reminding
you about deadlines.
The effects of missing an interview:
- Missed appointments inconvenience employers who have scheduled their time around
your interview.
- Missed appointments reflect poorly on other UM students, faculty and staff who are
your peers, colleagues and teachers for life.
- Missed appointments damage Toppel’s relationship with employers who may reconsider
whether or not to participate in OCR in the future. Employers do talk to each other.
- Because missed appointments disrupt this working relationship, other students now,
and in the future, may have their career goals affected by your actions.
Either way, your actions affect not only you, but your fellow students. It is your
decision whether you affect them positively or negatively.
Please make every effort to attend your interview. Cancellations are strongly discouraged,
and no-shows are unacceptable. However, we understand that emergencies do occur
at times. In the event that you cannot attend your interview, please notify Aileen
Lopez, Employer Relations Assistant at 305-284-8593 (leave message if unavailable),
or ailopez@miami.edu, as soon as possible.
All cancellations must be made by 5pm, two business days prior to the day of the
interview (5pm Monday for Wednesday or 5pm Thursday for Monday)*. If for some reason
you are unable to contact Aileen Lopez prior to the missed appointment, please do
so as soon as possible afterward to discuss the circumstances and your future in
OCR. Upon the first missed interview, you must write a letter of apology to the
recruiter. If you do not write a letter of apology, your CaneZone privileges may
be suspended. Upon the second missed interview, you must write a letter of apology
to the recruiter AND meet in person with a Toppel staff member to have your interviewing
privileges reinstated.
Years taken to build business relationships for the benefit of the UM community
can be erased with just a few negative experiences. Please observe the highest professional
and ethical standards and see yourself as we see you: an ambassador to the business
community, representing the University of Miami.
Toppel requires two business days so that other students who may desire an interview
with the company, have time to sign up for your vacated slot. Please observe this
professional courtesy to your friends and colleagues.
A Company Information Session is a critical part of the research that you need to
effectively prepare for all interviews. Information Sessions are informative and
serve as a way of gathering additional information about the company before the
interview. In addition, it enables you to personally meet a representative from
the company and also ask questions at the end of the session. If you have scheduled
an interview with an employer, you should always attend their presentation, which
is usually held the evening prior to the interview date. This is how you learn about
career options, company culture and environment, and career trends so that you can
make informed decisions.
To see what companies are conducting an information session, sign into CaneZone
and click on the Events Tab and then on the Information Sessions Tab.
