Looking for a way to increase your visibility on our campus? Do you need some ideas
for "outside the box" programs? We have compiled a list of Best Practices to help
you in planning your recruiting strategy at the University of Miami. These programs
are very beneficial to our students, while at the same time helping your organization
gain more exposure on campus.
The Employer-in-Residence Program provides an opportunity for students to meet with
recruiters one-on-one and seek any of four types of assistance:
- Mock Interview (help students sharpen their interviewing skills)
- Informational Interview (answer students' questions about your industry and more)
- Resume Review (give students tips on creating a winning resume)
- Job/Internship Inquiry (tell students about the different opportunities within your
company)
The benefit to you is name recognition and the ability to spend one day spreading
the word aboutyour organization on a one to one personal level. Each appointment
is 30 minutes long and we handle all the scheduling for you. In addition, lunch
is provided!
For more details and to schedule your campus visit, contact Natalie de Rojas at
derojas@miami.edu or 305-284-1822.
Before each Career Expo, our department is busy helping students prepare for meeting
with hundreds of recruiters. The EPIC Program was created as a way for employers
to give back to the UM student body by helping them with their interview skills
and resume writing. The benefit to the employer is increased exposure, while at
the same time having the opportunity to network with potential candidates. Several
companies have hired students they met during this program!
Employers choose to participate in the morning (mock interviews), afternoon (resume
critiques), or all day. We handle all the scheduling and provide lunch for participating
recruiters.

k.phillips@miami.edu or 305-284-1816.
Help us kick off the recruiting season with a bang by being a part of this one-day
conference-style program aimed at preparing juniors and seniors for the job search
and beyond. Career Kick-Off is organized by us, but completely presented by employers.
Here is the typical agenda:
- we start off with this speaker
to energize and motivate the students. Target Corporation has provided us with a
dynamic speaker for this presentation.
- students are educated on
the do's and don'ts of etiquette. Participating employers are invited to sit with
the students to provide their tips and experiences.
- students have a series of
employer presented programs to choose from in the afternoon. Past topics include
Power Networking, Negotiating Your Salary, The 5 E's of Interviewing, Transitioning
from College to Career.
Getting involved is easy! Do you have a topic you like presenting on to college
students? Do you know of an executive within your organization who can lend his
or her expertise? If so, let us know and we'll plug you in! Another way of helping
out is by sponsoring the program. Whether it's donating giveaways or funding the
etiquette lunch, your donation goes directly to developing our students.

Panel members needed! Not sure what you wanted to do after graduation? If starting
a career or continuing on to graduate school was not the right option, did you consider
other exciting choices? A great deal of opportunity exists for graduates who would
like to travel, volunteer, or learn more through the world of work. Did you volunteer
for a senator or travel across Europe? Ever build houses for the poor or conduct
research in a rain forest? Does your company have a unique one/two year fellowship
program for recent graduates?
If you would like to share your alternative option with interested students, please
contact Kyle Anne Phillips at k.phillips@miami.edu
or 305.284.1816 about being a part of this exciting program.
While today's students are very computer savvy and use email all the time, they
still like personal contact from employers. When planning your campus visit for
your Company Information Session, consider mailing out personalized invitations
to our students. We can help! Tell us what students you want to target (major, GPA,
class standing, etc.) and we will print the labels for you. Create your invitations,
put them in an envelope, attach postage and we will mail them out for you too. The
benefit of doing this is that students feel like they were specifically selected
to attend which increases the number of students at your session. It also strengthens
your brand on campus!

One of the best ways to gain instant credibility with our current students is by
bringing back UM alumni who work in your organization. Our students will relate
to them and feel more comfortable in the recruitment process. Whether you bring
alumni to a career fair, information session, or campus interview, they can be one
of your greatest assets.
Struggling to get the word out? Want to reach hundreds of students in one day? Looking
for a more informal way to chat with students about opportunities? Setting up a
table in the University Center Breezeway is an excellent way to catch many students
throughout the day. Whether you want to drive students to your upcoming Information
Session or just want to briefly connect with students on campus, a Breezeway table
is an easy way meet those needs. We provide the table. You bring your team, company
information, and whatever else you need to attract students. (Hint: food, candy,
giveaways are always a big hit!)
For more information and to reserve your FREE table today, contact Natalie de Rojas
at derojas@miami.edu or 305-284-1822.
A great way to market your internship program is by having UM students who have
completed an internship with your organization serve as a panelist for the Internships
101!Hosted in our career center and designed to prepare students for the internship
search, Internships 101 features student panelists who share their experiences while
with your organization and the skills they learned through the process. Attending
students can network with previous interns and are provided with materials regarding
your company and potential internship opportunities. Past panelists have represented
the U.S. Department of State, UBS Financial, Lehman Brothers, Target, Vibe Magazine,
NASCAR, and more!
For more information, please contact Kyle Anne Phillips at
k.phillips@miami.edu or 305-284-1816.
Throughout the year, the career center sponsors lunches for faculty and staff members
to educate them on current job trends and other relevant career development information.
By sponsoring one of these lunches, your organization has a chance to lend its expertise
and develop strong relationships with faculty members.
To learn more about these luncheons, please contact Kyle Anne Phillips at
k.phillips@miami.edu or 305-284-1816.
