Mission Statement
The mission of the Toppel Career Center is to provide high-quality services that enable students and alumni to develop a career path, identify and develop necessary skills, and ultimately obtain career-related employment or admission to professional or graduate school upon completion of their program of study.

Christian took on the role of Director in June 2009. He served as Associate Director for Employer Relations since 2001 where he was responsible for creating and maintaining relationships with employers representing many industries. He earned his Master of Science degree in Higher Education from Florida State University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Florida International University. Prior to the University of Miami he worked at the University of Michigan and Millersville University of Pennsylvania.

Karen joined Toppel in June of 2008 as Office Manager. Karen’s professional experience includes work in the fields of logistics, sales, purchasing management, and general organizational operations. She has been with the University of Miami since 2002 and has worked for the Office of Admission, Alumni Relations and the Cuban Institute. Karen is currently pursuing her degree at the University of Miami.

Lili has been the Administrative Assistant at Toppel since October 2008, and she has been at the University of Miami since 2003. She oversees the reception area, the Toppel Library, and Jobs for Canes postings. Lili worked at UM’s Office of Admission for five and a half years, where she served as an Assistant and supervised the P100’s. Lili earned a Bachelor’s degree from UM and is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Arts from the University of Miami.

Natalie has been with Toppel since 2002 and is responsible for On Campus Recruiting and Toppel's local recruiting initiatives. She previously worked for Florida International University in the Division of Student Affairs. Natalie is currently pursuing her degree at the University of Miami.

Kyle is a recent graduate from Florida State University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Master of Science in Career Counseling, and a Specialist in Education. Kyle is responsible for the Toppel Internship Program, as well as other events on campus: Internships 101, Graduate School Preparation Series, and EPIC (Mock Interviewing/Resume Critique). In addition, Kyle is responsible for Career Column; a weekly e-Newsletter sent to UM students on behalf of the Toppel Career Center.

Veronica has served in this role since August 2007 and her main responsibility is organizing all the major- specific career fairs. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of West Georgia. Veronica has years of experience coordinating conventions, trade shows and fundraisers. She worked for a non-profit organization in Columbus, OH and most recently for a local fundraising Foundation.

Aileen joined the Toppel Career Center in the Fall of 2007. She is responsible for assisting the Employer Relations team, approving job postings and employer registrations through CaneZone. She received her Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Management and Organization from the University of Miami. Prior to joining the Toppel team, Aileen worked as a Staff Associate for the University of Miami Football team for 6 seasons.

The Toppel Career Center welcomes Jacqueline Johnson as the Sr. Business Consultant. Jacqueline joins us after working at Office Depot as a Corporate Recruiter. Prior to her position with O.D., Jacqueline worked as an Executive Recruiter for nearly 5 years. Jacqueline obtained her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from the University of Phoenix and Bachelor’s in Psychology from Georgia Southern University.
Jacqueline is responsible for coordinating outreach and developing programs for undergraduate business students. She also looks forward to providing career advisement in her new role.

Ali has a Master of Education in College Student Personnel and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Florida. In addition to career services, she has also worked in Academic Advising and Residence Life. Ali joined the Toppel staff in July 2000 and oversees the career development area of Toppel, including career advising, career programs and workshops, and assessment testing.

Megan has been at Toppel since July 2005. She earned a Master of Science in Education in College Student Personnel at Purdue University while working as a Graduate Assistant in the Office of Admissions. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame and majored in Management. In addition to career advising and program planning, Megan supervises the Toppel Peer Advisors. She also coordinates all career programs and workshops for student groups and faculty on campus.

Eddy joined Toppel in June of 2008. Prior to coming to UM, he worked for University Housing at University of Georgia for two years. He earned his Master of Arts in Student Affairs in Higher Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and had an assistantship in the Career Development Center. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications from Kutztown University. Eddy's main focus is advising and planning programs for alumni and graduate students.

Frits received a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration at the University of Miami and Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Pennsylvania State University. In his current role, Frits is responsible for developing programs for undeclared students and providing career advising for these students. In addition, he will coordinate the assessment of the bi-annual graduation survey. Frits has previously worked as a Graduate Assistant for the Toppel Career Center and Office of Financial Aid at UM.

Diego graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. As an undergraduate, he was actively involved as an RA for the Department of Residence Halls. Diego is working toward dual Master's degrees in Public Health and Public Administration. As a GA, he critiques career-related documents, conducts presentations, and plans programs for students.


Andrea Sanchez, Graduate Assistant

Andrea graduated with a Master of Arts in International Relations from St. John’s University. She is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in International Studies at the University of Miami, with a focus on International Political Economy and Comparative Politics. As a Graduate Assistant at Toppel Career Center, she critiques students’ career development documents, conducts workshops and helps organize events for students.

Claire Arritola, Peer Advisor
Claire is a junior majoring in Accounting with a minor in history. She is from Miami and has interned at the Miami Herald. She often writes for the Miami Hurricane Student Newspaper and enjoys long-distance running.


Steve Glasser, Peer Advisor
Steve is a senior majoring in marketing with a minor in sports administration. He is from New Jersey and is a peer counselor in the School of Business Administration. Last spring he had an internship with ESPN in the Production Research department.


David Hunter, Intern
David is a senior majoring in International Finance and Marketing with a minor in Spanish. He is from Atlanta, Georgia, and has had internships with South Atlantic Traffic Company (in accounting) and Orasi Software (in marketing).


Nicki Marko, Peer Advisor
Nicki is a senior majoring in Video/Film and Anthropology and is starting her third year as a Peer Advisor. She is originally from Olney, Maryland, and her family recently moved to Okinawa, Japan. She had a summer internship with Discovery Communications where she worked in the Production department.


Daniela Martinez, Peer Advisor
Daniela is a junior studying Microbiology. She is from Caracas, Venezuela and plans to attend medical school. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and served as the president of Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society last year.


Alicia Mucci, Student Assistant
Alicia is a senior majoring in Accounting and Legal Studies. She is from West Deptford, New Jersey, and qualified for the Boston Marathon in April. She is a member of Delta Phi Epsilon and is a UM Ambassador.


Pallavi Pal, Peer Advisor
Pallavi is a sophomore majoring in economics (pre-law track). She is from North Potomac, Maryland, and is involved in the UM Mock Trial Team and Indian Student Organization. This past summer she interned at the Office of Chief Counsel in Rockville, MD.


Monica Penin, Intern
Monica is a junior majoring in advertising and Spanish with a minor in graphic design. She is from Coral Gables and is a member of Delta Gamma Fraternity. She completed a summer internship with Swimwear Association of Florida.


Diego Suarez, Peer Advisor
Diego is a junior majoring in finance with a minor in management. He was born in Bogota, Colombia, and his hometown is Columbia, Maryland. He has had internships with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney and Gibraltar Private Bank in wealth management.


Priyanka Surio, Peer Advisor
Priyanka is a sophomore majoring in biology and political science with minors in chemistry and Spanish. She is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and aspires to go to medical school and work in public health on a national scale. She is a member of Honor Council and has interned with the Health and Medicine Counsel of Washington on Capitol Hill.


CJ Walker, Intern
CJ is a senior double majoring in Management Science and Finance. He is from West Greenwich, Rhode Island, and is a team leader for Management 100 in the School of Business Administration. He has had internships at CVS/Caremark and Goldman Sachs.


Marissa Zerbo, Peer Advisor
Marissa is a junior double majoring in Media Management and Theater Arts. She grew up in Apple Valley, Minnesota, and now calls Fort Lauderdale her home. She is active in the President's 100 and Panhellenic Association.
