The off-campus housing database assists current and prospective students, and
faculty and staff with finding off-campus housing options available in the
surrounding communities. Visitors to the site can search
postings for vacant units and search for
a roommate. Most of the
postings are placed by members who have a good relationship with the
University and who are seeking UM students, staff, and faculty to occupy their
units.
The off-campus housing handbook is a comprehensive guide that provides
information about how to search for housing and what information all renters
should know before signing a lease.
The Department of Off-Campus Student Services wants to notify all individuals who have recently posted vacant units or a roommate listing on our off-campus housing website, that we have been informed that an individual has contacted landlords, attempting to involve them in an elaborate internet scheme.
We want your experience as a landlord or roommate to be a positive one, therefore, we are reminding each of you of the following tips you may find helpful in your search for a tenant/roommate:
- Be sure to collect all personal information about a tenant/roommate
- Please be sure that any funds that you receive clear your financial institution
before providing any refunds
- Feel free to ask for and check references
- Be sure to include all terms and conditions in your rental agreement
Although neither the University of Miami, nor the Department of Commuter
Student Affairs, endorses any of the apartments or individuals listed
on our website, and the service is provided solely for your convenience,
we wanted to remind everyone of the importance of protecting yourself
as landlords/roommates when dealing with potential tenants/roommates.
